Reparations | EP
Reparations is Jake Blount's debut EP. Recorded in a studio on the campus of Hamilton College with close friend and collaborator Tatiana Hargreaves, this no-frills duo record delves into lesser-known tunes from Black and Indigenous string band musicians including Manco Sneed, Sid Hemphill, Will Adams, and Teodar Jackson. Blount released the recording in 2017, between his graduation from college and the beginning of his full-time touring career. Together with Hargreaves and other collaborators, Blount performed the songs on three continents, and as an opener for MacArthur Fellow and GRAMMY-winner Rhiannon Giddens. As an EP, Reparations did not contain enough material to fill out a concert set. The pieces developed to fill that time laid the groundwork for Blount's award-winning debut album, Spider Tales.
